How to care for your mattress and make it last

3 min read · Published 4 November 2026 · Equatorial Sleep

A little regular care helps a mattress stay comfortable for longer, and it matters more in a humid climate.

Use a breathable protector

A washable, breathable mattress protector keeps sweat and spills off the mattress without trapping heat. Avoid heavy plastic covers, which hold moisture against the surface.

Let it breathe

  • Strip the bed and let the surface air for a short while each morning when you can.
  • Wash sheets and the protector regularly.
  • Keep the room ventilated, and avoid leaving damp items such as towels on the bed.

Rotate when appropriate

Turning the mattress head-to-foot from time to time spreads wear more evenly. Many modern mattresses are built with a specific top and bottom, so check the care instructions before flipping one over.

Support it properly

Use a solid frame or a slatted base with slats close together. Poor support can cause sagging and is not covered by a warranty.

Clean spills and stains promptly

Blot, never rub, and use a small amount of mild cleaner. Let the area dry completely before putting bedding back. Stains and normal wear are not covered by our 10-year warranty, so a protector is worth having.

Caring for Tencel covers

If your mattress has a Tencel cover, follow the label for cleaning and avoid soaking it. Gentle spot cleaning and good airflow are usually best.
