How to choose a mattress in Singapore: a 5-step guide

Choosing a mattress is easier when you break it into a few decisions instead of comparing dozens of specifications. Here is the order we suggest, whether you are shopping online or in a showroom.

1. Start with how you sleep

Side sleepers usually want enough cushioning for the shoulders and hips to sink in a little. Back and stomach sleepers often prefer a firmer surface that keeps the hips from dropping. If you change position through the night, or share a bed with someone who sleeps differently, aim for the middle of the range.

2. Think about heat and humidity

Singapore is warm and humid all year, and many people sleep with a fan or air-conditioning on. If you wake up hot, look at the materials near the surface of the mattress: cooling fabrics, breathable covers and latex tend to feel fresher than a dense, closed surface. 5. Try it lying down
