Pocket springs, memory foam and latex: what is the difference?

3 min read · Published 4 November 2026 · Equatorial Sleep

Most mattresses combine several materials. Knowing what each one does makes labels and showroom explanations easier to follow.

Pocket springs

Each spring sits in its own fabric pocket and moves independently, so the mattress follows your body and limits movement across the bed. Springs also leave space for air to move through the mattress. Pocket springs form the support core of every Equatorial Sleep mattress.

Memory foam

Memory foam softens under body weight and contours closely to your shape. Many people like it for pressure relief. Because it hugs the body, some find it feels warmer, which is why we use it in layers alongside cooling fabrics and breathable covers.

Latex

Latex has a springy, responsive feel and tends to feel less “stuck” than memory foam, so it is easier to move on. Our Signature and BreezeCool collections use bio-based latex.

Comfort layers and mini springs

Some models add a layer of smaller springs near the surface for a softer, more bouncy cushioning. You will see these in our deeper pillow-top and Euro-top models.

Which is best?

None of them is best in every case. A mix is common: springs for support, plus foam or latex for the surface feel. Use our filters to find a build that matches how you sleep, and see how each layer fits together on the Our technology page.
