How to sleep cooler in Singapore: 8 simple bedroom tips

3 min read · Published 4 November 2026 · Equatorial Sleep

Heat and humidity make it hard to sleep well in Singapore. The mattress is one factor, but a few small changes to the bedroom help too.

  1. Choose breathable bedding. Cotton, linen and other natural, lightweight fabrics let moisture escape better than heavy synthetics.
  2. Use a breathable mattress protector instead of a plastic one.
  3. Keep air moving. A fan helps air-conditioning work better and stops warm air settling over the bed.
  4. Set a comfortable air-con temperature you can keep all night, not one so cold you wake up chilly.
  5. Block afternoon sun. Curtains or blinds stop the room heating up before bedtime.
  6. Wind down. A warm shower a little before bed can help your body cool as it dries.
  7. Avoid heavy meals and alcohol late at night. Both can make you feel warmer and sleep less well.
  8. Choose a mattress made for the climate. A cooling fabric, latex or breathable cover makes a noticeable difference for many people.
